James Acott MSc BSc (Hons) MIFireE MAE MIAAI IAAI-CFI(V) IAAI-ECT: James has a Master of Science Degree in Fire Engineering and is a Certified Fire Investigator with the IAAI. He joined Fire Investigations UK LLP in September 2013. James started with Hannaford Forensic Services Ltd in 2004 where he has completed many investigations of scenes damaged by fire and/or explosion. He has gained extensive experience investigating fires in domestic and commercial properties; lightweight and commercial vehicles; and machinery including agriculture and construction plant. He has also been involved in the investigation of several large fires that caused significant loss. James has experience of identifying fires caused by manufacturing defects; poor maintenance/repairs; construction work; electrical faults in distribution equipment, photovoltaic installations and appliances; and deliberate acts. He is qualified as a Kitchen Extract Cleaning Operator, applying the B&ES Internal Cleanliness of Ventilation System TR19 standard ( section 7 – Specific considerations for kitchen extract systems) and has investigated many fires involving extraction ducting. He has been engaged as an Expert Witness, having prepared reports in accordance with both the Criminal and Civil Procedure Rules, and presented evidence in both County and Crown Courts. He is also a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers; the Academy of Experts; the UK – Association of Fire Investigators (UK -AFI) and the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI).
