Mick Gavin

Mick Gavin is a former Station Officer/Watch Commander with the London Fire Brigade. His service included 15 years of service as an operational fire officer and 8 as a dedicated Fire Investigation Officer. He is now an experienced forensic fire investigator and consultant in the private fire industry.
Whilst serving in the London Fire Brigade, Mr Gavin investigated over 750 fires and was awarded the Fire Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. He was responsible for conducting forensic investigations to determine the origin and cause of fires, analyse how they had developed and consider how people involved had interacted with the fires. His responsibilities included
preparing reports for the police, London Fire Brigade senior management, and HM Coroner. Mr Gavin has conducted many forensic fire investigations following his fire service career. Since retiring from the London Fire Brigade, he has had responsibility for conducting investigations across the UK and Europe. This has included providing expert opinion when matters of liability
have been at issue.
He attended the University of Central Lancashire’s taught Master’s Degree in Fire Investigation graduating with distinction in 2019.
He is a member of the United Kingdom Association of Fire Investigators (UK-AFI), the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) and the Central European Association of Fire Investigators. (CE-AFI). He is also a member of the National Association of Fire Investigators in the United States (NAFI), the International Association of Fire Investigators (IAFI) and an
associate member of the Institution of Fire Engineers.
He is a certified fire Investigator with the IAAI and NAFI and has membership of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences (CSFS) at Chartered Forensic Practitioner level.
