Robert Milne

Robert completed 40 years of service with the Forensic Services Directorate, Metropolitan Police, Scotland Yard. Trained in fire investigation by The Metropolitan Police Detective Training School and the London Fire Brigade he routinely examined arson scenes and deliberate fires.  Continual Professional Development and mentoring was from the Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Forensic Science Laboratory.  He was promoted and attached to the Met Lab FIU. He produced one of the first computer graphics albums used in an arson homicide trial at the Central Criminal Court.  He has the Diploma in Crime Scene Examination, Kings College, London University and is an ACPO registered Fingerprint Expert. He has examined and retrieved evidence from many fire scenes.  He devised a forensic intelligence structure for arson data used in the MPS Forensic Intelligence Unit, Met Intelligence Bureau (MIB). The data structure was presented at Brunel University in 2005 and was successful in working with the Fire Investigation Team and Arson Task Force, London Fire Brigade (LFB) in detecting and prosecuting major arsonists through the partnership working.  Robert has collaborated with insurance company fire investigators at scenes where a valid commercial interest has coincided with police arson casework.  He is the London Regional Representative of the International Association of Arson Investigators UK (IAAI-UK), a member of The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, a Fellow of The Fingerprint Society and a Full Associate Member of the International Academy of Investigative Psychologists.
