Steve is a Certified Fire Investigator and an Associate of Fire Investigations (UK) LLP, which trades as FI-UK and FI-Global, and provides fire investigation services including: origin and cause determination, fire development determination, case management, cold case review, expert witness service, training and presentations.
Steve has investigated numerous fires on behalf of individuals, companies, insurance and legal firms. This has included working with loss adjusters and solicitors in the subrogation of claims. Steve has experience in the investigation of fire related claims in domestic, commercial and industrial losses, those that are accidental and non-accidental in origin, and fires involving fatalities and non-terrorist explosions.
Prior to joining FI-UK, and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS), Steve served for 8 years in the Armed Forces as a Royal Engineer. This involved diverse work such as qualifying as a plant vehicle mechanic, a combat engineer, an amphibious engineer and completing an active service tour in Northern Ireland searching for, and deactivating improvised explosive devices (IED’s).
On joining Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) Steve served for 25 years as an operational fire officer, the last 10 of those as a specialist fire investigation officer. During that period Steve investigated fires of a more complex and/or protracted nature. He investigated and reported on a wide variety of fires including those involving fatalities, and high financial loss. Steve also provided evidence to coroners and criminal courts as required.
Steve completed 4 years in NFRS’s training department, and a 3 year secondment at the internationally recognised Fire Service College, as an instructor. He designed, delivered and evaluated multiple training events and courses for both the fire service and private sectors. This included, but was not limited to fire behaviour and fire investigation training.
Steve is a member of several fire related professional bodies. As a certified fire investigator he maintains and enhances his knowledge, understanding and skills by, for example, attendance at relevant CPD events and by the use of tested e-learning resources.
